Windows Live 2.0 betaInstaller Release Notes

Windows Live Beta release notes for Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Writer, Toolbar, and OneCare Family SafetyBefore installing the beta versions of Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Writer, Toolbar, and OneCare Family Safety, please review known issues below.

Windows Live Installer; Build 1320.0823
Download Size: 1.72mb
Internet Explorer security message “Windows Live Login Browser Helper Object” appears during installation
During installation, you may see an Internet Explorer Security dialog with the title “Windows Live Login Browser Helper Object”. The Browser Helper Object is also known as the Sign-in Assistant. This assistant is a control that will display when you try to log into Windows Live services and helps you log in with multiple Windows Live IDs on the same machine. In the Security dialog box, click the box marked “Don’t show me this dialog again” and then click Allow.
“Please close these programs…” message for WLLoginProxy
If you had Beta 1 installed and are upgrading to Beta 2, you will see a “Please close these programs…” message for WLLoginProxy, which is used for the Sign in Assistant. Click the Ignore button if you see the “Please close these programs…” message for WLLoginProxy as well if you see a “Please close these programs…” message for Task Manager and Windows Explorer.
“Please close these programs…” message for Windows Live Toolbar
If you have the One Care Advisor Button installed as part of the Windows Live Toolbar, you will be prompted to close all instances of Internet Explorer that have the toolbar running.
64-bit is not supported for Beta 2
Beta 2 does not support a 64-bit installation; however the final version of Windows Live will support 64-bit (with the exception of Family Safety). You have the choice of either continuing to run the Beta 1 versions of Windows Live or you can uninstall all Windows Live applications and reinstall the released versions. For more information see KB Article 938275.
Uninstall and reinstall Windows Live applications
If you need to uninstall Windows Live applications, please follow the directions posted in KB Article 938275.
Repair is not triggered when setup is run again
If you are prompted to run repair when you try to start Messenger, do not run the Windows Live installer again. Instead launch Messenger from the shortcut and Messenger will automatically repair the installation.
Uninstall of Windows Live Applications triggers a repair for remaining Windows Live applications
If you uninstall one of the Windows Live applications and then launch one of the remaining applications, those remaining applications may enter a Windows installer repair process. This is due to a dependency being reapplied via the repair process by Windows Installer. After you run repair once for the effected applications, repair should not happen again.

Windows Live Mail 2008; Build 12.00.1365
Download size: 17MB
Attachment limits
If you’re using the classic version of Hotmail, you may be subject to a relatively low number of attachments that you can send in e-mail. For this reason, you may experience a high failure rate when sending Photomail or e-mail with multiple attachments. If you’re using Windows Live Hotmail, you should have a limit of at least 50.
Photomail slideshow viewer may fail to load
When clicking on the View Slideshow link within a received photo e-mail, the online photo viewer may fail to load with a script error. In most cases, closing the browser window and clicking on the View Slideshow link again will resolve this issue.
Photomail "View Slideshow" and "Save Images" icons may appear as gray blocks
Icons for View Slideshow and Save Images may appear as gray blocks outside of the Windows Live Mail client in some web-based e-mail applications.
Contacts groups
Any contact groups created through the Contacts user interface in Beta 1 of Windows Live Mail will be migrated or imported into Beta 2 as empty groups. The members of these groups will be imported into the root node in the Contacts User Interface. Any contacts groups that were also encrypted will be migrated or imported with a GUID (a random number and letter combination) as the group name rather than the friendly name from Beta 1. These issues only apply to groups created within the Beta 1 Windows Live Mail client. Groups created using Windows Contacts (Vista) or Windows Address Book (WAB, XP only) will be migrated properly.
Unassociated contacts and groups
When upgrading from Beta 1 to Beta 2, contacts and groups will only be auto-migrated for Beta 1 clients who are signed-in with a Windows Live ID (Passport). You can verify that you are signed in by looking for your Windows Live ID in the upper right-hand corner of the client. If the upper right-hand corner of the client says Windows Live sign-in, you are not logged in. If you are not signed-in in Beta 1 and upgrade to Beta 2, you’ll need to import your Beta 1 contacts and groups using the Windows Live Mail import options.

Window Live Photo Gallery; Build 12.0.1193.815
Download size: 12MB
Back up all your photos and videos
As with all our beta releases, we strive to provide a highly stable product that you can explore, test, and enjoy in advance of the product’s actual release. That being said, this is a product under development and we strongly recommend that you back up all your original photos and videos before using Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta.
Additional software required to run Windows Live Photo Gallery
Setup will install all the required software to run Photo Gallery; however if you accidentally uninstall it, re-running setup will not re-install it. Re-run Setup and then install the required software components below:
*This component is not required when installing on Windows Vista.
Images may not display correctly
Images may display incorrectly when a defective color profile is installed as a Display Profile. The Windows Live Photo Gallery Viewer respects color profiles—defective profiles will cause the system to display images incorrectly. The solution is to remove the association of the display with defective display profile and return to the default display profile of sRGB.
In Microsoft Windows Vista:

  • Click Start and then Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel click Hardware and Sound and then click Color Management.
  • In the Color Management settings dialog click the Devices tab:
  • Select your display in the Device list. If your system has multiple video cards and/or multiple displays, be sure to select the display which is exhibiting the issue.
  • Ensure “Use my settings for this device” is selected.
  • Under Profiles Associated with this Device, remove the profile (or profiles) listed in this box by selecting a profile and click Remove.
Once complete, the box will be empty, ensuring any and all defective profiles have been removed.
  • Click Close.
In Microsoft Windows XP:
  • Click Start and then Control Panel
  • Click Appearance and Themes and then click Display.
  • In the Display dialog, click the Settings Tab and then click the Advanced button.
  • Click the Color Management tab.
  • Under Color profiles currently associated with this device, remove the profile (or profiles) listed in the box by selecting a profile and clicking Remove. Once complete, the box will be empty, ensuring any and all defective profiles have been removed.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
Scanner setting not set on Windows Vista
Changes to scanner settings in the Windows Photo Gallery Import options cannot be applied on Vista. Files may not show immediately when scanning photos through Windows Live Photo Gallery. If the folder that the photo was scanned into is in navigation pane, you can view the photo by selecting the folder. If the folder is not in the navigation pane, you can add it by clicking the File button and then click Include a Folder in the Gallery.
Error “Apple QuickTime Playback Not Supported”
Currently, there is an incompatibility between Apple’s QuickTime player and hardware security features of on some computers with Intel and AMD processors that prevents playback of QuickTime content in Windows Live Photo Gallery.
To play QuickTime content:
  • In the Windows Live Photo Gallery, click the QuickTime content to be played.
  • Click the Open button and select QuickTime Player.
Rotation command may fail
The rotation command may fail when high-definition MPEG-2 video content, including some dvr-ms format files, is being acquired, rotated or published from Windows Live Photo Gallery on Windows Vista. A bug in Vista's low-level video pipeline is causing this issue. Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working on a fix for Vista SP1. Your original video content will not be altered or harmed by this problem.
Error "Setup Install Failure"
If Photo Gallery setup fails to complete, please rename the file spupdsvc.exe (typically located at C:\ Windows\System32) to _spupdsvc.exe and try setup again.

Window Live Toolbar 2008; Build 3.01.0000.0130
Download size: 1.5MB
Installation of Windows Live Toolbar may fail
The installation of Windows Live Toolbar may fail if a previous version Windows Live Toolbar is installed. If this is the case, please use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to remove the previous installation before trying to install.
Fewer features appear on the toolbar
The Windows Live Toolbar beta will install fewer features than the released version of the toolbar. To add features to the toolbar, please select “Toolbar options” from the toolbar menu and select “Install Buttons”. Additional buttons may also be installed from the Windows Live Gallery by selecting the Gallery button on the toolbar.
VBScript error message while installing
While installing the Windows Live Toolbar you may see an error message regards to the VBScript runtime not being registered and the installation will fail. Please register VBScript using the command below, install the suite and then unregister the component.
To register VBScript, enter the following in a Command Box:
VBScript: regsvr32 c:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll
To unregister VBScript, enter the following in a Command Box:
VBScript: regsvr32 /u c:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll

Windows Live OneCare Family Safety V2; build 1.8.4420.0
Download size: 3MB
64-bit Windows
Windows Live Family Safety software does not run on 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista.
V2 Family Safety automatically included in installation
If the released version of Family Safety is installed on your computer and you choose to install another Windows Live Suite Beta application (such as Toolbar or Messenger), the v2 Beta 2 version of Family Safety software will automatically be included in the set of applications to be installed.
Family Safety not configured properly after installation
After installation, the Family Safety software will be not configured and will not filter web content.  During configuration, log in with your Windows Live ID that was used to define your household's settings. This enables the Family Safety software to pull down the settings that belong to this household. To complete the first-run configuration, click the Family Safety short-cut on the Start Menu.
Repair message may appear
If you uninstall another Windows Live application such as Mail or Messenger, you may see a repair dialog while the installer fixes shared registry keys used by both Family Safety and other applications.
Reboot computer after uninstall
During uninstall of Family Safety, you will be prompted to reboot you computer. Internet access may not work properly until you reboot your computer.
Prompted to re-enter configuration information
If you fill in the first Family Safety configuration dialog, sign in with a Windows Live ID and then exit out before completing the second dialog, the next time you start Family Safety you will be shown the first configuration dialog again. If you enter the same Windows Live ID and password, you will be able complete configuration without a problem. However, if you enter a different Windows Live ID, you will get an error message "This account is not authorized for internet access on this computer. Please select another Windows Live account to sign in." To resolve this issue enter the same Windows Live ID that was entered originally.
